SNOW

Correct me if I am wrong, but I think this is the first snowfall we have had this year in West Sussex? It is quite an unusual sight these days, and by lunchtime the ground had become blanketed in the white stuff and some quite deep drifts had formed in parts of the garden. By mid afternoon with the temperature rising, the snow quickly began to turn to slush.

I had to be quick to catch a photo of the weight of the snow on the white blossom of the Amelanchier which is also known as Snowy Mespilus.

  1. It's been a one day winter-land, which is just how I like it!

  2. Perfect plant to illustrate the snow. Nothing like that here-yet. Just a few flurries.

  5. Beautiful pic Louise....the only problem is if there is too much and it weighs down and cracks the branches...hope it melted right away.

  6. We are jealous, for though the clouds promise us snow they do not deliver. Only sharp hail falls in frozen beads from clouds heavy with the weight of ice.
We love the pictures on your blog. our garden is visited by beautiful goldfinches at the moment.

  9. Well, you certainly do seem to be having unusual weather. Hmmmm, I wonder what is going on.

I love your phrase "marsmallow clouds". So descriptive.

What a striking contrast, the red of the flowers against the white of the snow.

    Lovely photos.

  10. Hi Louise, just popped over to see if the snow was all gone yet. If it hasn't melted already, then I hope its still as pretty as it is in these pictures...

  11. Beautiful!
When we were in the grips of our record breaking heatwave (15 days over 35C, but it felt much longer), I adored looking at photos of snow. Even though it's cooler now, I still love looking at pictures of snow.
    Thank you!
