PEACOCK BUTTERFLY

A peacock butterfly basking in late Autumn sunshine. This butterfly usually goes into hibernation in September and spends the winter in a location where they can find shelter and darkness.

You really do need to click on the photo to enlarge, to discover how perfectly beautiful this butterfly really is.

A butterfly lights beside us, like a sunbeam, and for a brief moment its glory and beauty belong to our world, but then it flies on again, and although we wish it could have stayed, we are so thankful to have seen it at all - author unknown.

What a find and what a picture! I've just recently come to realize that this time of the year is so much easier to take pictures of butterflies (any that are left, that is) and dragonflies as they alight and soak up any warmth that is available. Amazing patterns on your butterfly. Thanks also, for such a fitting and poetic quote.

You are so right Denise. I clicked, enlarged...there is a very unearthly beauty to this butterfly. I have never seen a butterfly like this before. Such richness of hue...

We haven't seen so many this year I guess the weather hasn't been good for butterflies.

What a gorgeous butterfly! I can see why it's called the "Peacock". It truly is stunning and all the more so for being photographed on that rocky background.

Butterflies have been such a rare sight in our gardens this year haven't they? I suspect this week's wintry weather's sent them all off into hibernation now.

Have a great weekend!
