FRAGRANT SWEETPEAS
Instead of Runner Beans next year, I think I'll grow more Sweetpeas.
After a slow start, this mix Elegant Ladies have been flowering really well.
They smell amazing, and remind me of the old-fashioned Matucana and Cupani varieties.
I took up Monty Don's invaluable advice to pick blooms every 10 days, which has proved a great success!

Your photo of the sweet peas is beautiful. Such delicate petals and what wonderful colours.xxx
such a lovely photo, their colours are so beautiful and I can imagine their wonderful scent!
Good old Monty, he talks a lot of sense!
How wonderful that you are still harvesting your sweet peas, we saw some lovely tall sunflowers today and thought them rather late too.
I LOVE Cupani - my all time favourite. Oh dear, now I have ideas......
Ooohhh I love sweet peas. They are my favourite flower. I've grown Cupani in the past its scent is amazing. My sweet peas went over by the middle of September but they'd been in flower since the end of May so I couldn't complain. I love Sarah Raven's catalogue for sweet peas because she gives them marks out of ten for scent. This year I grew a dark variety called 'Almost Black', 'Prince Edward of York' and 'Dorothy Eckford', they were all really strongly scented.
That sounds like a good idea to me! I shall be growing them, and runner beans, again as usual. Flighty xx
Lovely pictures, I love sweet peas too! I didn't get much of a chance to plant anything this year as we moved house in August ~ the good news is that our new house has a fab cottage garden, and I look forward to spending some time in it next year ~ have a good day, Haizi x
My sweet peas were a bit of a disaster this year - it was so dry and windy that it was really difficult to get them established.

Don't they smell wonderful too?
:-)
I did the same Louise and my sweetpeas lasted for ages.
Good idea to grow more sweetpeas than runner beans. We were swamped with them - I sowed way too many!
I've just remembered that I had not posted a thank you on my blog for your last giveaway! Will rectify that very soon.

Sweet Peas have the most delicate colors with the lavender mixed with the darker purples. My what a gardner's masterpiece!
