CRINKLY THE SWAN

Love is in the air for Crinkly the Swan, whos patch is at Slimbridge Wildfowl and Wetlands Trust in Gloucestershire. Apparently he appears to be 'loosely' associating with another Slimbridge Bewicks swan called Taciturn, which is great news. Up until now, with his crooked neck and ungraceful flying, no other female has showed any remote interest in him, aah. Despite his disability, which makes him less aerodynamic, Crinkly has managed to survive seven migrations from breeding grounds on the Russian Arctic tundra which means that he has flown over 21,000 kilometres which in my book makes him the superhero of the swan world.

Swans fly back to Britain at this time of year because conditions in the tundra make feeding impossible.

Let's hope we can hear the 'flipper flapper' of tiny cygnets in 2008, with proud parents Crinkly and Taciturn looking on!

Bewick's swans are delightful-we have been to visit them at Slimbridge- and this is a lovely cheering story. Isn't Crinkly well named?

I've never seen a swan with anything but a smooth neck! It is known why it's like that?
Anyway let's hope he does okay in the future.

Ahhh I'm so pleased that crinkly found love. That's so sweet. I wonder if swans mate for life. What a great story!

We are all members of the Washington Wildfowl park and have enjoyed hundreds of visits over the past 12 years! Seeing all of the changes and being part of the growth of the place and the residents has been and still is a pleasure.
It is a wonderful story!

I used to love going to slimbridge and feeding the swans when I lived near bristol. Glad crinkle is doing ok. You asked about my flour bin and I never gave you a reply it has bread in I'm affraid its just not big enough for all my flour, I thought about getting a big bread bin to keep all the flour in as its all pushed and ballanced on the top shelf of a cupboard. We got the table cloth from luara ashley I never thought to try woolies. Captain Ruperts fur is just like velvet i used to have a velvet scarf and his jus the same but thicker. It comes from having no tough guard hairs just soft under hairs. His out in the garden at the moment enjoying the frost.
