ORIENTAL POPPIES AND BEES
I've had the day off work today, and early this morning I took a leisurely walk around the garden, dilly-dallying with the camera. Lou if you're reading, I was in my nightie!
I noticed bees around the Oriental Poppies buzzing in the most crazy way outside and inside the flower head.
They were loving the rich velvety centre ...
and the silky-smooth crepiness of the petals.

Hello there
yes I noticed the same thing this morning, though not in my nightie!
Hope you had a lovely weekend
ps I also found some different looking bees, which turned out to be carder bees or lead cutters!
Great days!
Clare xx
Wow, what wonderful close shot of that Poppy. The petals look like fabric. It's the photographer, Stupid, not the camera, but I am trying to decide upon a new camera. Which one do you use to achieve such close shooting? I would also like to try to photograph the birds in my yard, but my Coolpix isn't that versatile. I guess that I will have to move up to a camera with different lenses, but then I can't slip it into my pocket. Is there any camera that will do it all? thanks
I've one oriental poppy which had one flower which only lasted a few days! The bumble bees sure liked it! Flighty xx
Hello Louise, yes I am reading…I’m so glad it’s not just me. :-)
Beautiful pictures, we found a poppy field at the weekend. I couldn’t seem too get any good pictures of it.
Have a wonderful week, love Lou xxx
Its a bog standard salvia purchased from b&Q!!!
BTW your blackbird fledgling picture is awesome! So cute!

Fabrics of nature ~ The contrast of textures between the velvety stamens and the crepe petals, makes for remarkable photos. No wonder the bees are attracted to such an amazing pollen source. Lovely photos :)
Gorgeous. The petals of the poppies look like a nighty, all silky, and then the center is so rich like an opulent dream...
Louise, what truly stunning photos. I feel as though I can feel those poppies.
Louise, have you said somewhere before what kind of camera you use? I would like to get one for myself sometime and am always so impressed by your photos...thinking perhaps if I had a similar camera it might improve my chances of taking better photos. ;-)
Amazing photos Louise. The bees do love poppies and who can blame them!
Sweet little blackbird fledglings in your last post ...

Love love love that first picture , the colours are awesome. I tried to get a photo of the bees on our Jasmine yesterday but failed miserably . It sounded like I was at the World Cup from all the noise they were making
OOh that color makes it good enough to eat!
I have a new fresh blog if you would like to take a peek,
it is HERE.
Happy Summer!
Becky
it does look like velvet....and the petals look all silky....
Those poppy plants are beautiful. They add a great touch to your garden. The deep hues are gorgeous and would be a great plant to put light colored on as you have with it
Love poppies, they are such lovely plants. You sure got a green thumb for growing them. they look so healthy.
