PARSNIPS
Remember my mutant parsnip post? Parsnips modelled on the well known Dr Who character The Ood. Well this one has forked, but it is the longest one I have ever had, from the top of the foliage to the root of the parsnip, it measures just over 55 inches, and is in danger of taking over my garden bench, if not the world! My ever so slightly clay soil must half be fertile!
Thanks to Na at Shadows and Clouds, I now know these parsnips are going to seed!

is that your only one or are they all like that? Not sure if it's normal or not but you certainly got a lot of leafy growth. My rhubarb has enormous leaves and not many stalks... it was suggested to me that it was in too sunny a patch... not sure if it is true, i thought it was the great nutrient quality of my soil?
What will you do with it?

Hahaha. I first came to find you thru that older parsnip post. Having never grown them myself, I cannot offer any help. Thats one Parsnip I wouldnt want to offend!

ah.... parsnips!!! i LOVE them! well, when we grew them the other year we left some to go to seed to use in future, and the foliage bit got nearly as high as me, and i'm tall! and our soil is a little clayish too, so maybe that is why?
At least your Jack In The Parsnipstalk has an edible parsnip at the base. The one time I tried growing parsnips, ALL I got was tall fluffy leaves.
Oh, my goodness! I had no idea that parsnips could grow so tall. How in the world did you get it out of the ground?
I like the bench, but I'm not so sure about the parsnip! xx

That is one Guiness Book of world record parsnip...
I enjoy Parsnip fritters. In fact, that is the only thing I make with them. They are the perfect picnic food.
Well I'm assuming they like the same conditions as carrots..which like sandy soil.. I can't grow either! Your parsnip foliage is very impressive though! Gx
