A Hoverfly supplementing its diet with fennel nectar, and aiding pollination too.
A Hoverfly will lay its eggs where aphids have become established. The eggs hatch into larvae, which in turn eat the aphids.
To look upon as a garden friend.

this is a wonderful photograph. i could use some of those aphid eating "friends"!
What a sweet insect. I wonder if they live here on Long Island. We are having a problem with honey bees, and I was afraid that I wouldn't get any holly berries or other berries. Maybe Hoverflies do the same job.
Hello Louise! The spider in my Mutant Trees blog is a flower crab spider. They are generally white but can change colour slightly to blend in with the flower that they live in. They lie in wait and eat bees and other unsuspecting insects as they enter the flower. The spider was about as large as my last photo. x
